Are you a Job Developer

Professional Development

Road Show

The Ontario Road Show is a professional development conference specially designed for anyone whose job is to build relationships with employers – job developers, Ontario Works employees, secondary and postsecondary co-op consultants and more. Its purpose is to provide access to industry best practices, allow participants to hear from employers first hand and to facilitate networking with peers and employers.

The first day of the three day Ontario Road Show conference informs delegates through an exciting and highly instructional keynote by Bill Santos, LMI updates, networking opportunities, an employer panel and individualized professional development workshops. The final two days are delivered by the Job Developer Institute which provides specialized job developer training to delegates.

In its inaugural year, the Ontario Road Show paid a visit—or is scheduled to pay a visit—to the four Ontario Regions: the Central Region, the East, the West and the North with stops in Toronto, Ottawa, London and Thunder Bay. By bringing this three day conference to locations across the province ONESTEP and our partner FirstWork wished to deliver professional development opportunities close to home for everyone working in our sector, making the professional development as accessible as possible.

Below is a link to a program guide highlighting the activities and speakers that appeared at Ontario Road Show stop in Toronto on January 19, 2010. Look for upcoming announcements on the second annual installment of the Ontario Road Show in 2010-1011!

Not-For-Profit Training

FirstWork offers the Job Developer Institute – Job Development training focused on the fact that job development plays an important and ever-increasing role in today’s employment agencies, yet little formal training is available to assist the job developer to become effective in his or her position. The Institute combines in person training with additional online study to achieve the course goal: the ability to develop and maintain strong employer relationships.

Community Colleges

Community colleges offer career professional certificate programs, with some job developer specific material delivered.

Visit George Brown College’s Social and Community Services department to find out more about their career professional programs:

Conestoga College has a Career Development Practitioner (Post-Graduate) certificate offered through its School of Health & Life Sciences and Community Services, under Community Service programs.

NOTE: ONESTEP makes no claims as to the quality or effectiveness of any of the professional development opportunities listed on this site. Please review these opportunities fully before deciding whether or not to access them.
