TWIG-Greening the Economy- Transitioning to New Careers

The project helped to identify industries affected by the green economy and increase the understanding of the effect of the green economy on occupation within key sectors. The report provided details on occupational analysis across four key sectors including utilities, construction, manufacturing, and retail trade. The four sectors were chosen based on their importance to these areas in terms of employment size and growth.

This issue - "Preparing for work through Essential Skills: One Job Seekers' Experience"- highlights the partnership and possibilities that can result from successfully involving essential skills in employment counselling and literacy training. OLC provides Essential Skills Bulletins to provide information to instructors, employers, employment agencies, labour boards and social service agencies on the importance developing the essential skills of Ontarians.

OALC Communique from the OLC

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) and the provincial literacy organizations representing LBS delivery sectors and streams, as well as AlphaPlus Centre, have joined together to create the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum (OALC) for the Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) Program.

MTCU is also working with the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration (MCI), and the Ministry of Education (MEDU) to ensure that the new curriculum is articulated with their foundation skills programming and enhances pathways between them.

The content of this communiqué, written by the Ontario Literacy Coalition, focuses primarily on the Learning Materials Component of the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework. Click here to view.
