
Competency Models
Competency models describe the skills, attitudes and behaviours that lead to superior performance in a specific employment role. They can and should be used for hiring, performance appraisal, ongoing performance management as well as employee mentorship and development activities.
As part of ONESTEP’s performance management project, competency models were developed for typical job positions found in community based not‐for‐profit employment and training agencies. Participants from ONESTEP member agencies participated in focus groups to collect the data for each job position. Based on this data, competency models were then developed and validated using participant feedback and academic research.
